Sam is a first year Masters student at the Nicholas School of the Environment. He grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and imprinted early on Appalachian foothills and mixed pine ecologies which, looking back on it all, is maybe why he is where he is now. He worked in sustainable dairy in Pennsylvania before coming to Duke and misses both the cows and Amish whoopie pies. However, Duke Campus Farm has much to offer in terms of sustainable food networks, beautiful eggplants, and community and Sam is grateful he made the drive down. Sam is excited this year for Southern spring on the farm, cucurbits, and attending minor league baseball games.
